With McCain’s record of telling half-truths and sometimes flat-out lies, its a wonder many people are still buying into his claims that Obama is going to raise taxes for the middle class. I’ve seen a lot of compelling, non-partisan information out there claiming just the opposite. Obama’s plan would actually include a tax break for most American’s. For example:

Another great point I wanted to share came from a reader over at Talking Points Memo:
McCain, like Bush, wants to give tax cuts to the rich, while Obama wants to help the average American.
“But here’s what’s really interesting. Obama’s proposals would raise his own taxes by hundreds of thousands of dollars, in order to cut the taxes of people who are less fortunate than he is. McCain would cut his own taxes even further than they’ve already been reduced. And that’s everything a voter needs to know about these two men.”

Lipstick on Pigs?
First, let me just say that the McCain campaign really needs to get its priorities straight. They’re really good at attempting to distract the voters from the real issues. Nevermind that our economy sucks, people are unemployed, houses are in foreclosure, our troops are stuck fighting a pointless “war,” or that our country is facing a financial crisis – nope, those things don’t matter, because (oh.my.god.) Obama just called Sarah Palin a pig! Lets also ignore the fact that McCain used the same phrase when referring to Hilary’s health care policy and that Obama was not really referring to Governor Palin.
(Oh, by the way… Obama, great touch with the stinky fish thing. Awesome.)

Colliding Particles Means the End of the World
I’ve been reading a lot about the controversy over CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (a huge particle accelerator). The LHC is such a cool project, and if, like me, you’ve ever read Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons you would share my excitement about it, and CERN. But, people are afraid that it will cause a black hole large enough to suck up the Earth and all its inhabitants, thereby effectively bringing about the end of the world. Honestly. This has prompted legal action from people in Europe and the United States to effectively stop the use of this incredible machine. Go figure. Fortunately it didn’t work and the LHC was fired up today. Hooray for science! Now if only they can find a way to engineer a world with no idiots.

College Students Beware
I read this article about certain states illegally purging voter registration lists and thought I would share. Apparently these states are deleting people’s registration because they have moved states, but they are not giving them sufficient notice (or in some cases, notice at all) that their registration has been canceled. The National Voter Registration Act actually requires voters be notified by mail over two federal election cycles before being removed. Last year 21,000 voters were removed from the rolls in Louisiana without their knowledge. These people were displaced by Hurricane Katrina and as a result of obtaining a new federal ID in the state they were removed to, their Louisiana voter registration was revoked. While the cleaning up of registration data is necessary, those most susceptible to it (transitory people; i.e. college students) are most likely unaware of what is happening. So, with an election coming up, I thought I would warn you. Please check with your state’s voter registration office prior to 24 days before the election to make sure your voting rights are intact.

Clearing out the cobwebs… September 10, 2008
I know its been a bit since I’ve posted anything but I am in the process of moving, always a joyous occasion. As soon as I have everything moved in and unpacked I’ll sit down and post something obnoxious… like how I am sitting outside on my private balcony, having brunch and gazing out at my beautiful view of the river and downtown Tulsa, listening to the outdoor symphony orchestra across the street, and thinking how I finally got the incredible high-rise apartment I’ve always wanted.
